Health Benefits of Tea: Energy, Focus & Destress
Share
Many people love coming home after a long day to make a warm cup of tea, but why is that exactly? What makes tea so relaxing and comforting? You could say the warmth of the tea or the way that it’s prepared makes you be patient and take a moment to yourself. While both of those things play a part, there’s actually properties in the tea itself that play a big part as well!
The biggest player in the comfort of a cup of tea is an amino acid called L-Theanine. You may have heard of this as a supplement that lowers anxiety and stress while making you feel more focused and relaxed as well. Instead of the supplement, a cup of tea gets you the same benefits along with the other health benefits from tea.
This amino acid is the main reason why monks across thousands of years have used tea in their meditation and for religious gatherings. It’s a meditative drink that helps you to destress and stay focused.
In America, coffee is the go to morning wake up drink. However, usually this is faced with jitters and anxiousness afterwards. If you’re someone who’s very caffeine sensitive, like myself, this can be very difficult. Before I learned about the benefits of tea, I thought because of the caffeine content in tea that it would make me feel the same way as coffee. This couldn’t be farther from the truth though. I’ll have about 3 to 4 cups of tea a day, and I don’t feel any sort of jitters or anxiousness that I would on coffee. It makes me feel more alert and focused while, in turn, actually soothing my anxiety. It’s one of my favorite things about tea, and a big reason why I preach it as a replacement to coffee so often.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a cup of joe and there’s nothing wrong with drinking coffee. But if you struggle with the jitters, anxiousness and maybe even upset stomach that come after coffee, I encourage you to try out tea! There’s a HUGE world of different teas out there, and I’m convinced that there’s a tea out there for everyone. You just need to keep trying until you find the one that fits your taste.
If you’re interested in trying out tea, I encourage you to either go to a local tea shop and get a hot tea. You can chat with them about your tastes and what you might enjoy! If you don’t have a local tea shop, you can look for Enaga Tea products coming out late July, or if you’re just interested in chatting about what teas might work for you, my email is always open at alex@enagatea.com.
